WHEN DO THE MERMAIDS SWIM

Sunday - Thursday - 9:30PM / 10:30PM

Friday - Saturday - 8:30PM / 9:30PM / 10:30 PM / 11:30 PM

IS THERE A COVER TO GET INTO DIVE BAR?

We charge a cover on Friday and Saturday nights after 8 PM. Cover is generally $10 but may raise or lower and is dependent on holidays, special events or rentals.

DO I NEED TO RESERVE A SPACE TO SEE THE SHOW?

First come, first serve for show viewing. Standing room only for Friday and Saturday Mermaid Shows. Cover is charged after 9 PM on Friday and Saturday

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE TANK?

Dive Bar features a 40 ft, 7,500 gallon saltwater tank, which is home to over 15 species of tropical fish, and is the stage for our nightly mermaid shows. Our tank is maintained and cared for by our team of trained aquarists, who care for our live fish, clean, monitor the cleanliness and water quality on a daily basis, Our tank is kept between 78 and 81 degrees for the health and safety of our live animals.

HOW DO I BECOME A DIVE BAR MERMAID?

We are not currently seeking out new underwater performers; if you would like us to keep your resume on file please email us at mermaids@916venues.com. Please include any swim, dance or performance experience in your resume, as well as a head-shot. Please note that it takes our mermaid performers at least two months to train to become performance ready, as their jobs are athletic, challenging and strenuous.

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED INSIDE DIVE BAR?

We are currently a 21+ venue, and children are not allowed inside Dive Bar. You may hire our mermaids for private parties or events, and also make appearances in the local community year round.

HOW CAN I HIRE A MERMAID FOR MY PARTY OR PRIVATE EVENT?

WE ARE TEMPORARILY ON HOLD FOR OFFSITE PARTIES AND EVENTS - We apologize for the inconvenience.

CAN I SWIM IN THE TANK?

Our tank is a specialized and delicate ecosystem featuring live animals. It is also hazardous, claustrophobic and dangerous. Because of the sensitive nature of the tank, and the extensive training our underwater performers receive, we very rarely allow guest swimmers in the tank.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

Dress Code is enforced after 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays
Employees reserves the right to modify, change and enforce the dress code on site
Dress to impress! Please refrain from wearing….
- No ball caps, trucker hats, or beanies
- No steel toed footwear, slippers, flip flops or slides
- No hoodies, sweatshirts or sweatpants
- No sportswear (except for special events, as noted)

Tank Triva #1

We are the only underwater performance venue where our swimmers do not wear goggles, swim in salt water, and use only free-diving (holding your breath) during their shows! No masks, hookah breathing devices or chlorine allowed

Our tank is so large that it had to be installed before the facade of the building could be built! In this image, you can see it being loaded off of a flatbed, with a crane on K Street in 2010

Our Mermaid tails weigh approximately 25 lbs each! Our flukes add about a foot and a half of width to out feet; and act similarly to cat’s whiskers. We can tell if we are touching the side of the tank, or bottom during our shows

The tank is supported with a series of steel beams that run all the way through the basement, and all the way up through the ceiling. It will be standing long after the building falls down! In this image you can see the street level flooring, and the basement underneath. The wrapped tank is being loaded into the space in the top left corner.

Our tank has a same salinity (salt levels) as our eyes! It does not burn when we open them, nor does it hurt our sinus when we do inverted swims or tricks. Did you know different oceans have different levels of salt?

Our mermaids wear special waterproof, and fish safe makeup during our shows. We need everything to stay put for two, 25 minute swims every night.

Our underwater performers have to train for two months to learn the skills needed to perform in our highly-specific tank environment. It’s a TON of work to be a professional mermaid.
